Smoking Chimneys

I came across this artist called Trevor Grimshaw (1947 -2001) who painted northern Industrial landscapes. Some of his paintings give an insight to what the dirty mile was like from Netham lock along the Feeder Canal towards Temple Meads.

The industrial past of Barton Hill and the Marsh was full of smoking chimneys. It was a unique landscape with nothing in comparison in the rest of the city of Bristol.

Only a tiny fragment is left of where our grandparents and great grandparents worked. What is left must be protected. Any family stories and memories of working life at the Netham chemical works, Lysaghts, the cotton works etc etc do please share. Regards Garry Bartonhill
