COMMUNITY GRAFFITI IN SHEFFIELD

The following community graffiti was put on a board outside a block of flats in Sheffield. It is so well written and sort of mirrors the redevelopment of Barton Hill in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The words in Hilda Jennings book Societies in the Making (1962) from a local resident in response to the council was “ We’re not a slum , we’re respectable and so is Barton Hill. “ Pretty much the same as in Sheffield today.

Does anyone have any stories about their parents/grandparents standing up to the council? Regards Garry
